A sketch of a street portrait photo
11th February 2016

Occasionally I get requests from artists who want to sketch or paint one of my street portraits. This drawing of my Man and His Dog street portrait photo is by a photographer/artist named Martin Turner.
I am quite impressed with the final results. Apparently it took some 40 hours (give or take and was sketched using Graphite on A3 Bristol Board for all your tech spec fans. What do you think?

David Bowie memorial Brixton London

David Bowie memorial Brixton London
I had a scheduled photo walk Meetup with We Shoot People in Brixton this Saturday afternoon with We Shoot People. So, thought I would get there ahead of schedule to pay a visit to the Bowie memorial wall first as I felt I needed to go and say goodbye to the Starman.
I was pretty taken aback to be honest with the ever growing shrine of flowers, fan memorabilia, & personal gifts left by mourning fans, two weeks on from his passing on 10th January 2016. I saw a few people in tears, still adding tribute messages on the walls by the artwork mural. Sad, reflective, overwhelming, but amazing love in the air for the David Bowie. You are truly missed.

Keep walking until your camera batteries die! - London photography

I woke up full of energy on Saturday morning and I decided was going to have one of those spontaneous photo walks where you just pack ALL your camera(s), zoom lenses, prime lens, tons of batteries and memory cards into your bag and just set off after breakfast. The sun was out, I had my headphones on, I was ready to go..
I hadn't been to Golborn Road/Portobello Road Market for ages, and being a local haunt, this is where my adventure began....after weaving up and down the many colourful side roads of Notting Hill Gate and exploring the market from head to toe, my work around here was done.

Next stop was unplanned... just got on at Notting Hill Gate tube and took the Central Line to Chancery Lane... wasn't really much going on here, so walked down to Holborn area and popped into the British Museum briefly as hadn't been in there for ages. Always love the light on a sunny day.

Took a shortcut over to Covent Garden. Mega busy as expected, I hadn't had time to see the new art 100,000 white balloons installation by French artist Charles Pétillon properly, so dropped by.

Next stop... Westminster via a walk over to Trafalgar Square and down Whitehall. Enroute I visited Horse Guard Parade. I hadn't been there for years. Amusing seeing the number of tourists queuing up to take selfies with the on guard trooper, who then walks off when he is scheduled to do so. The batteries on my Sony RX100 ran out, so was time to switch to my Panasonic Lumix camera.

Got to Westminster and milled around a bit, then headed across the Westminster Bridge down to Southbank/Waterloo area and hung around until the light started to dip.

Got a few shots of the dusk skyline including Big Ben, the London Eye and the Wonderground and then I decided to call it a day and head home with a bag of dead batteries and a memory card or two full of images :)

A mischievous police officer decided to photobomb this street portrait photography shoot I did in Shoreditch, East London. The funny thing is I didn't notice until I loaded my camera memory card into my computer and viewed the image!

When an artist paints one of your photographs
I received an email from a Facebook friend Lucy who is an artist (painter) a while ago asking if she could paint one of my street photography images. Of course I said yes as I was really intrigued as to what their interpretation of one of my street photography images would look like in paint.
I sent them a jpeg of the photo they were interested in painting, went for lunch. By the time I had finished my lunch she had emailed to say the painting was done!!
Anyway, below is the painting impression of my image! We have since named the man in the picture 'Mr Pret' for obvious reasons!
Here is the original photo:

and the painting!

When Sociology Influences Street Photography

I received this interesting email in my inbox the other day from Melanie, a lady who had visited my website and was interested in buying some prints of mine.
It was a unique email in that she is a professional sociologist who was curious about my images. I have copied her email and my response below…
“Linda, your pictures are simply wonderful, and I am definitely going to buy some prints. However, I was wondering about the background stories to the photographs, as I would love to know the context of your shoots. There are so many that I think are absolutely evocative about time, place and person – that sounds rather trite, but as a sociologist, I’m very interested in what caught your eye and why, even if you don’t personally know your subjects story – I understand that the picture denotes the story, just interested in whether there was any interaction?”
